It's 1967, Dahlia rests in country Victoria’s windswept ranges, a gold mining town shaped by toil and tradition. When townsfolk begin to disappear and natural phenomena riddle the land, Alice and her best friend Jasper grapple with visions of a force beneath Dahlia itself - supernatural and ancient. When Alice’s partner Roy is appointed Supervisor of the Dahlia Gold Mine, she senses whispered warnings and shares them in Dahlia’s local newsletter; the pages reflecting her paranoia about the recurring coincidences. The town's omniscient Reverend attempts to control the unrest and Alice is torn between loyalty to her roots and the creeping sense that the town itself is rejecting its people.
Featuring an entirely original musical score, along with the subtleties of natures’ soundscape, the atmospheric energy of this production is real, raw and unrelenting. It has been composed, performed and recorded by West Australian musician Curtis Waterman.
Rooted in folklore and shaped by the harsh realities of life on a dying frontier, Boundless Plains is a mysterious and unsettling exploration of isolation, belonging, and the power of our natural world. Inspired by the philosophy of the Romantics, it is a haunting Australian Gothic about man’s inferiority, friendship, and the cost of ignoring what lies just beneath the surface.
