About this event

2024 Djilba - Miles Cup - 7:00am on Saturday 21st of September 2024 @ Chequers Golf Club, Bullsbrook WA

The Miles Cup, sponsored by our esteemed club Secretary, Rob & his family is our, now traditional Djilba season event.

The Noongar season of Djilba kicked off in August & is the start of the massive flowering explosion that happens in the South West of the state. Beginning with the yellow flowering plants such as the Acacias.

Djilba is a transitional time of the year, with some very cold and clear days combining with warmer, rainy and windy days mixing with the occasional sunny day or two. Fingers crossed that we get the sun for this years event.

The Djilba - Miles Cup will be a 4BBB Stableford event. Played in pairs with the best Stableford score for the hole becoming the Team’s score for that hole. So grab a partner & sign up!

Traditionally, the main food sources for local people included many of the land-based grazing animals including the Yonga (Kangaroo), the Waitj (Emu) and the Koomal (Possum) but the Golfers at Chequers will be more interested in Birdies & maybe even a Waalitj! (Eagle)

As the days start to warm up, we start to see and hear the first of the newborn animals with their proud parents out and about providing them with food, guiding them through foraging tasks and protecting their family units from much bigger animals, including people! We might see a few Joey’s if any Kangaroos cross the fairways.

The woodland birds are still nest bound, hence the swooping protective behaviour of the Koolbardi (Magpie), Djidi djidi (Willy Wag Tail) and chuck-a-luck (Wattle Bird). Stick to the fairways & avoid being a target of some over-protective mother birds!

As the season progresses and the temperatures continue to rise, the flower stalks of the balgas (Grass Trees) emerge in preparation for the coming summer. Who will emerge as the champion golfers & take home the Djilba - Miles Cup?

As per all Six Seasons Golf Club events there will be plenty of novelties & great prizes on offer!

Players are required to pay their Green Fee at the Pro Shop on the day, Motorised golf carts are available as well, by phoning Chequers Golf Club on 9571 1277
