In conjunction with the 2024 SSAAANZ Conference, Assemblage is pleased to invite you to two events on Tuesday December 3: an interactive sound workshop in the morning at Flinders University City Campus, and an afternoon of discussion panels and a mentoring mixer for Higher Degree Research students and Early Career Researchers, at the University of Adelaide.
Both events are free, and are open to the Assemblage community, and current postgraduate research students. Attendance is not limited to conference attendees, but registration is essential via this page.

Sound workshop with John Oestmann, Room 506, Flinders City Campus
Composer and video game sound designer John Oestmann leads this hands-on workshop introducing participants to sound design workflow, tools and soundscape creation for any medium. Participants will use Audacity to design their own sound environments using provided resources. No prior experience necessary!
Lab PCs and software access will be provided. Please bring your own headphones that can be used on PC desktop machines.
HDR and ECR Workshop, Barr Smith South 2040, North Terrace campus, University of Adelaide
The SSAAANZ pre-fix day workshop offers HDR students and early to mid-career academics a valuable opportunity to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another. This event will feature:
-Academic Pathways Panel: A group of early-career, mid-career, and established academics will provide insights and answer questions on topics such as:
- Navigating academic job searches
- Strategies for academic publishing
- CVs and job applications
- And more
- Industry, Creative Practice, and Non-Traditional Research Outputs Panel: Join practitioners, academics, and industry professionals as they discuss:
- Creative practice as research
- Grant applications
- Approaching industry job applications
- Supervising creative practice
- And more
Following the panels, we will host an informal presentation on the SSAAANZ Mentorship Program, providing HDRs and ECRs with the chance to connect with established academics in their fields.
We invite all HDRs, ECRs, and MCRs to attend the panels. All SSAAANZ members interested in mentoring or being mentored are also warmly welcome to join us for the SSAAANZ Mentorship Program event.
Afternoon tea will be provided.
