What, when, and where?
The inaugural Australian Placebo Nocebo Symposium will take place at the University of Sydney on 14th February, 2025. This symposium offers a one-day program dedicated to advancing understanding of placebo and nocebo effects and aims to develop a network of Australian researchers and clinicians interested in this topic. Talks will cover a broad spectrum of topics, ranging from underlying psychological mechanisms and neurobiology to clinical applications.
This event provides a valuable platform for researchers and clinicians to share insights, discuss recent developments, and explore future directions in the study of placebo and nocebo effects.
The event will be in person only and registration will cost $10 for ECRs (students/postdocs) and $20 for academics/clinicians/others.

We are pleased to announce that Professor Winfried Rief from the University of Marburg, Germany and Professor Luana Colloca from the University of Maryland, USA will deliver keynote addresses.

The symposium will also feature talks presented by experts in the field, including:

We will also hold a panel discussion focused on the implications of placebo and nocebo effects for clinical practice featuring clinicians and researchers in the field.
Opportunities for postdocs and HDR students:
We also welcome expressions of interest from postgraduate research students and early-career researchers (postdocs) who wish to present their work. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit abstracts for consideration. To submit an abstract, please fill out the form provided after registering through Eventbrite.
Abstracts must be 200 words or less, and the deadline for registrations with abstract submissions is Friday 10 January.
General registration will close on Friday 7 February.
