The 2019 Chief of Army History Conference will focus on The Australian Army's relationship and connection with the Indo-Pacific region.

The biennial Chief of Army History Conference looks at how history informs and assists the direction of the Army and the development of its capability. This year&#x27;s conference theme is entitled &#x27;An Army of Influence: The Australian Army&#x27;s Connection with the Region.&#x27; Speakers include:<ul><li>Professor John Blaxland, ANU</li><li>Captain (Dr) Garth Pratten and Colonel (Dr) David Connery (TBA), Australian Army</li><li>Professor Peter Dean, UWA</li><li>Professor David Horner, ANU</li><li>Lieutenant Colonel (Dr) Dayton McCarthy, Australian Army</li><li>Dr Tristan Moss, UNSW (Canberra)</li><li>Colonel Graeme Sligo, Australian Army</li><li>Professor Craig Stockings, AWM</li><li>Speakers from the Papua New Guinea Defence Force and the Army of the Republic of Indonesia (TNI) to be confirmed.</li></ul>The conference is free to members of the Australian Defence Force and Department of Defence Civilians and invited guests. The Army was required to change capability and tactics from a desert army in North Africa to a jungle army in New Guinea to an amphibious army in the East Indies archipeligo.
