About this event

The AFTRS Library Presents 50th Anniversary Screening program is a celebration of feature films that have been made by AFTRS Alumni. This program shines a spotlight on the wonderful legacy of our screen practitioners, whose work continues to inspire. This month will are showcasing:

DEAD CALM (dir: Phillip Noyce, 1989)

Phillip Noyce was part of the first student intake at the Australian Film and Television School in 1973. His first full-length film was the 16mm Backroads (1977), made in collaboration with the Indigenous Australian activist Gary Foley.

Noyce's films include such Newsfront (1978), Heatwave (1982), Patriot Games (1992), Clear and Present Danger (1994), The Saint (1997), The Bone Collector (1999), Rabbit-Proof Fence (2001), The Quiet American (2002), Salt (2010) and many others.

This event celebrates his classic 1989 Australian thriller Dead Calm starring Nicole Kidman, Sam Neill and Billy Zane.
