This interactive 3-hour workshop is designed for counsellors and mental health practitioners who want to sharpen their core microskills, strengthen client engagement techniques, and explore real-world applications through case-based learning. Whether you're early in your practice or seeking to refresh your clinical toolkit, this session provides a dynamic space to reflect, practise, and connect.

We’ll cover:

  • Core microskills refresh – including advanced attending, minimal encouragers, paraphrasing, and reflection.
  • Engagement essentials – building rapport, fostering safety, and adapting your presence to meet diverse client needs.
  • Case study exploration – work through scenarios highlighting common therapeutic challenges and ethical considerations.

YOUR FACILITATOR

Alyona Cerfontyne, a counsellor, clinical supervisor and a university lecturer.

Alyona is an experienced counsellor specialising in couples, families and trauma-informed counselling. She has a Master's Degree in Counselling from Monash University, GradDip in Psychosexual Therapy from the University of Sydney and a GradDip in Psychology from Melbourne University. She has just submitted her PhD thesis in counselling for misattributed paternity.

As a supervisor, Alyona prioritises personal growth and inregrity, encourages professional reflection and provides practice-tested guidance. She welcomes all types of counselling modalities, as long as they are client-centered and ethically sound.
