About this event

Actor-artist Ursula Garcia presents ‘Am I an Insect, or am I a Girl?’, a durational work that investigates the connection between women and insects.

In this durational experience, you are invited into the world of ‘Bug-Girl’, in which you are summonsed to observe and interact within the world created by the artist. When you enter the space, you are encouraged to handle the supplied materials, read and follow any instructions given, open anything, or simply stay and contemplate as Bug-Girl continues her daily routine.

Watch as the space transforms over time as Ursula asks the audience to question and explore the societal norms that we place upon women through her artistic practice, which involves personal anecdotes, poetry, mise en scéne, and movement-based expression within the space.

This is a durational performance and you can spend as little or as long as you want exploring it during the 3-hour timeframe. You are also welcome to leave and then return at a later point in the performance to see what has changed.

This performance takes place within the 2024 Honours Performance Festival. There are 2 other performances that make up this event; Waiting for Rain by Dustin Waters and Love Letters To Those We've Lost by Jade Colletti. We highly recommend that you see all 3 works happening on this day. The links to the following Performances can be found below;
