About this event

The Archibald Prize 2024 is an Art Gallery of New South Wales touring exhibition, and it is coming to Ngununggula.

The annual Archibald Prize is eagerly anticipated by artists and audiences alike. Judged by the trustees of the Art Gallery of NSW, it is Australia’s most celebrated and democratic – sometimes controversial – art award. Since 1921, it has highlighted figures from all walks of life, from famous faces to local heroes, reflecting the stories of our times.

This year’s winner was Laura Jones for her captivating portrait of author and activist Tim Winton. Find out more about the Archibald Prize 2024 finalists here.

This summer in the Southern Highlands, you have a unique opportunity to see two nationally acclaimed exhibitions in one beautiful location. The Archibald Prize 2024 at Ngununggula coincides with the Salon des Refusés at Retford Park. A much-anticipated feature of the art scene, showcasing an incredible ‘alternative’ selection of works not chosen for display in the official Archibald Prize exhibition.

Ngununggula and Retford Park are offering an ART PASS ticket to see both exhibitions. Why not make a day of it and add a delicious meal at Hearth by Moonacres to the itinerary? Their farm-to-table menu is available for breakfast and lunch daily.

The Archibald Prize 2024 at Ngununggula and the Salon des Refusés at Retford Park will open on Saturday, 30 November 2024, and continue until Monday, 27 January 2025.
