Arts on Site for Teens: Papermaking (Day 1)

Dive into the world of papermaking and bookbinding in this hands-on workshop series, designed just for teens aged 14–17.

Following the success of our Unbound: Books Reimagined Masterclass series, we’re excited to present a brand-new Arts on Site workshop, led by Tasmanian artist Christina Graham.

Over two exciting days, young creatives can explore the world of handmade paper and bookbinding in these engaging starter workshops:

Day 1: Papermaking Creation - Learn how to transform waste paper, scrap fabrics, and other materials into your own unique, eco-friendly paper.

Day 2: Bookbinding Basics - Use your beautifully handmade paper to craft a handbound book to take home.

Participants can choose to join either workshop or attend both for the full experience. Please note that each workshop must be booked separately.

About the workshop

• This workshop is open for young people aged 14-17 of all experience levels who are curious about papermaking and bookbinding.
• The registration fee includes all materials.
• This workshop will be held at the Queen Victoria Museum, 2 Invermay Road, Launceston.
• This workshop is part of a two-part series. This event is for Day 1: Papermaking Creation. Participants can also reserve a spot for Day 2: Bookbinding Basics (please note: a separate booking must be made for each day).

About the artist

Christina Graham is a lutruwita/Tasmanian artist and illustrator, strongly drawn to the documentation of natural occurrences and drawn to an exploration of the space between people, nature and bodies of land. Inspired by her island home, its unique environment and wild places, Christina intricately paints the flora and fauna that inspire her.

Christina is a traditional artist, working with watercolour, gouache and ink. In addition to her painting practice, Christina creates her own paper from recycled scraps and binds the paper into beautifully formed art books.

About the exhibition

A book contains words and information on pages, bound together and protected by a cover… At least, that's what we generally understand a book to be.

Unbound challenges this perception – and reimagines the many forms a book could take.

This exhibition focuses on two types of books: artists' books that are works of art that utilise the book form; and pop-up books which contain three-dimensional features that can be activated by a user.
