Purpose of Workshop
Assessing tenders and proposals requires more than technical expertise—it demands a deep understanding of project design elements that drive meaningful impact. While your industry experience is invaluable, are you confident in identifying risks, spotting assumptions presented as facts, and evaluating the practicality of proposed approaches?
This workshop offers a candid exploration of the challenges that can arise after accepting a research proposal. From contracting and intellectual property (IP) management to governance and implementation, we’ll uncover common pitfalls that derail projects. Using practical examples, we’ll examine proposals that seemed promising but failed due to flawed methodologies, team dynamics, insufficient resourcing, or poor management.
You’ll leave equipped with tools to critically assess research proposals, reduce implementation risks, and recognise the design elements that ensure investments deliver measurable results. Gain the confidence to make informed decisions and enhance the success of your projects.

Who should attend?
This workshop is for anyone that is making R&D investment decisions either individually or as part of a group on assessment and investment committees. It is for those that have a niggling feeling that certain research projects won’t work but that don’t have the reasons for those feeling. There are no prerequisites, however, participants should have experience making R&D investment decisions and/or participating in assessment and investment committees.
