About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Join Irma Gold as she discusses Shift, her gripping new novel set in South Africa, and shares her experiences as an author, book editor and podcaster. Irma will be in conversation with local author Rebecca Fraser.

Shift is set in Australia and South Africa, and is about the messy process of art making, and the mess of love and family in all its different forms. The novel’s release coincides with the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Freedom Charter, and it invites conversations around the telling of truth through fiction.

The first review from Books+Publishing magazine is an exciting response: ‘Shift has cemented Irma Gold as a standout voice in Australian contemporary literature.’ It goes on to compare Shift to Trent Dalton’s Boy Swallows Universe.

Irma Gold is an author, freelance editor and podcaster. Her works include a novel, The Breaking, a short fiction collection, Two Steps Forward, and five children’s books. Her short fiction has been widely published in literary journals, and her next children’s book, Come Home, Bigibila, cowritten with Kamilaroi man Corey Tutt, is forthcoming with Allen & Unwin. Shift is Irma’s second novel published by MidnightSun. She is also the founder and co-host of the writing podcast Secrets from the Green Room.
