A hands-on beekeeping field day held at the Swanpool Cinema and adjoining tennis courts. Run by experienced commercial and recreational volunteer beekeepers. Program includes many of the familiar features from previous years, tweaked to provide the following:

  • Keynote Speaker - Karla Williams Honey Bee Pests, Diseases and Varroa
  • Dedicated hands-on sessions for those with no or less than 12 months experience with bees, covering the basics: hive placement, smoker, what’s inside, how to open and handle bees etc.
  • Spring Management (managing swarming)
  • Advanced management for honey production
  • Monitoring & Managing Varroa inc. alcohol wash
  • Pest & disease inspections as well as managing SHB & Wax moth
  • Supplementary feeding. When and Why?
  • Queens & Queen Assessment

With 100 participants from all levels of beekeeping experience there is no shortage of good discussion and food for thought throughout the day. Numbers are limited to ensure a high standard of presentation and experience.
