About this event

Behind the Crime takes you behind the scenes to learn how the law and policing procedures work to solve a major crime. This is your chance to hear from Detective Sergeant Matt Hogan and Crown Prosecutor Claudia Georgouras who successfully prosecuted William Reid for the murder of Travis Davis.

ABOUT THE CASE

“Trapped in his own web of lies was his undoing,” Detective Sergeant Matt Hogan.

On November 12, 2013, 28-year-old Biloela man Travis Davis, was reported missing by his parents.

Mr Davis travelled to Cairns in September 2013 with his puppy, in his black Toyota utility. His mother kept in regular contact as he was looking for work in Cairns.

Detectives commenced an investigation, searching bank records which revealed activity in the Kuranda area on or about October 20. Further inquiries identified his bank account was drained and he missed appointments.

A media appeal for information was launched and it wasn’t long before Mr William Reid contacted Crime Stoppers with information about the case.

Detectives methodically, investigated every lead before they located human remains in bushland on the Tablelands on November 24.

Further forensic examinations were conducted before then 19-year-old William Reid was charged with one count each of murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing by looting, forgery and three counts of fraud.

In April 2016 Reid was convicted of murder after providing conflicting accounts about his involvement.
