About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Welcome to our June Friends of Kokoda (FoK) 'Beyond the Battlefield' military history talk event!

Join us on Saturday 14 June 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway's Ralph Honner Education Centre, where our speakers discuss events that often occured beyond a battlefield, but relate to military history topics.

The talk in June will see author Ryan Butta discuss his latest book The Bravest Scout at Gallipoli, in his talk 'Adventurer, Digger, Spy – The many lives and tragic death of Harry Freame'.

Ryan will examine the life of a little-known Australian Gallipoli veteran, Harry Freame, a fascinating man whose life leading up to and after Gallipoli was one which defies belief. Harry was half-Japanese, yet he was viewed at the time as a hero and a brave and daring soldier. However Harry's life was also filled with discrimination and intrigue as World War 2 began. It is a story that will fascinate and surprise you.

Admission for members of the FoK program is free; others can pay a small donation of $5.00 on the day (or through our website).

Connect with fellow military history enthusiasts at the Walkway and don't miss out on this unique experience!
