About this event

  • Event lasts 30 minutes

Have you ever wondered what the habitat of a dingo looks like? What about a koala, crocodile or a turtle?

Well... this Science Week, you’re in luck! Join us for the popular BIG Day of Science at the Museum at Inveresk as we go behind-the-scenes through live virtual zoo tours with the team at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.

On the day, we’ll be learning about animal species and their habitats and how we can help these species survive and thrive through conservation efforts across Australia.

This series of fun and interactive live virtual sessions will offer a deep dive into one species per tour, with zookeepers sharing a range of enclosures, before taking you up close and personal with a range of incredible animal species.

Each session will be live-streamed in the Nuala O'Flaherty Auditorium at the Museum at Inveresk, with comfy seating and space to relax.

Don’t miss out—there's limited seats available for each screening, making this one program you do not want to miss!

    PLEASE NOTE:

    • Bookings essential via Eventbrite.
    • Parent/guardian supervision is required for the duration of this activity.

    Session times:

    • 11am: LIVE zoo tour with Dingoes
We’ll be venturing (virtually) into a dingo enclosure with a Mammals Keeper from Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to meet some dingoes. We’ll hear about general dingo facts and biology, public perceptions around Australia and dingoes, main threats of this species if you were to see one in nature, and their role in our ecosystem.
    • 12pm: LIVE zoo tour with Crocodiles
At 12 noon we’ll venture (virtually) into the estuarine (saltwater) crocodile exhibit with a Reptiles Keeper from Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to hear about crocodile biology, their role as apex predators and the impact of climate change on this species.
    • 1pm: LIVE zoo tour with Koalas
This session will see us exploring (virtually) the Koala exhibit at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary with their education team; get set to watch some koalas eating at lunch time and learn about threats facing this species, specifically the impacts of climate change such as increased bushfire and flooding events, changes to leaves in drought conditions and more.
    • 2pm: LIVE zoo tour with Turtles
Our final live virtual zoo tour for the day will see us meeting a Mary River turtle with the education team at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. We’ll learn more about their status as an endangered species, the impact of the 1970’s pet trade on this species, and how climate change is impacting their natural habitat.
