At our next book club we're discussing...
EATING DEMOCRACY - The true cost of the food we eat.
It's a series of personal stories written by people from diverse backgrounds and locations.
Some are students, others work in hospitality or the arts, are academics, or have professional carrers.
Each care about the food they consume, where they source it from, and how it is grown, prepared, and eaten.
The topics we will discuss include:
Personal food journeys, food and community, First peoples and food, food access, favourite meals, food ethics, the cost of food, where our food comes from, food deserts, the meaning of food, culturally diverse food, and ideas fo resilient food systems.
This book was published via crowdfunding by the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance (AFSA) which is a farmer-led civil society organisation of people working together towards socially-just and ecologically-sound food and agriculture systems that foster the democratic participation of Indigenous Peoples, smallholders, and local communities in decision making processes.

Frequently asked questions
Life gets busy, we understand, but come anyway (please RSVP) and join the conversation. We all love to eat, so our conversations always flow into personal food experiences and/or where to eat.
We're based in Coffs Harbour and meet at Palate & Ply Cafe, in the ‘garage’ indoor seating area at the front, overlooking the street. A table is reserved from 10:15 am and we’re super easy to find.
Bite Book Club is a foodies book club, so our books include all facets of food writing – from food memoirs, to food ethics, and food and community. If you love to eat, this book club is for you - and you don’t have to be a gourmet cook to join!
We meet up bi-monthly on the 3rd Saturday. The dates for the rest of 2025 are: 17 May, 19 July, 20 September, and 15 November. November is a combined end of year lunch event. Events are posted about 6 weeks in advance.
