About this event

  • Event lasts 1 day 3 hours

This two-part workshop occurs from 1:30-5pm, on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December.

On that weekend you will learn how to make your own serving plate and vase, using slab and coiling construction techniques. Once your pieces are made, we’ll apply a coloured slip glaze to the surface of your pieces and spend some time planning your designs. Finally, you’ll dive into the sgraffito technique to create your own botanical-inspired design, by etching into the outer coloured surface to reveal the underlying clay body. This workshop will include hands-on demonstrations and exercises for you to practice forming and decorating your pieces.

In this engaging and supportive setting, you will:

  • Learn slab and coiling construction techniques in clay.
  • Use sgraffito techniques to explore various patterns and botanical designs to create your own unique, personalized pieces.
  • Make your own botanical sgraffito serving plate and small vase.
  • Connect with fellow participants, fostering a sense of community and shared creativity.

After the second session Lauren will take your your pieces and fire them in her kiln. After that we will contact you to collect them from the gallery where you will take home your own botanical sgraffito serving plate and vase.
