Brisbane City Council is committed to keeping Brisbane clean, green and sustainable, and values your help in protecting more than 2500 plant and animal species that make Brisbane the most biodiverse capital city in Australia.
The Brisbane Biodiversity Seminars present guest speakers on the city's unique plant and animal species and other environmental topics. Join us in-person or online to learn about recent research and projects and what more we can be doing to conserve Brisbane's bird species.
Location: Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre and Live Streamed online via ‘MS Teams’.
Guest speakers:
Professor Hugh Possingham: Professor Hugh Possingham is a conservation scientist and mathematician who has held positions in the university, public and not-for profit sectors. He is a Foreign Associate of the US National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science. In 2016 he became the Chief Scientist at The Nature Conservancy, a global conservation organisation operating in 79 countries with 400 scientist, and from 2020-22 he was the Queensland Chief Scientist.
Dr Carly Campbell: Dr Carly Campbell is a Research Associate in Conservation Ecology at QUT. Carly specializes in using big datasets and emerging technologies to inform conservation action. Carly’s PhD project at Griffith University was a collaboration with BirdLife Australia with the goal of better understanding the state of Australia’s urban bird communities to achieve conservation outcomes.
Cass Gaisford, Brisbane Sustainability Agency: Cass has over 20 years’ experience designing, delivering and project managing a wide range of environmental rehabilitation, nature based recreation and public open space projects. Cass has been working as a project delivery manager within the Oxley Creek Transformation Project at Brisbane Sustainability Agency for the past 5 years. Prior to that Cass has worked in both the private and public sector, primarily designing and delivering outdoor nature based-recreation, parkland and natural area restoration projects.

Bookings: Online bookings required via Eventbrite. Please select either an attend in person or live stream ticket. Live stream ticket holders will be sent a link with instructions on how to join the event, after bookings close. Bookings close 3pm on Tuesday 10th September.
Cancellations: In-person tickets are limited. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your booking via Eventbrite to open up the waitlist for others.
