Join us for GDG Brisbane's Build With AI event on Friday, 2nd May, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. This event will feature two specialized streams: AI and Mobile. Attendees must choose one stream, as both will run in parallel.

1️⃣ Mini-Workshop: Predicting the Future in 30 Minutes
👨‍🏫 Speaker: Patrick FitzGerald – Founder & Managing Director, Universal Edge AI

Ever wondered how machine learning models predict outcomes like customer behavior or market trends? In this hands-on, 30-minute session, we’ll build a complete supervised learning model from scratch using Google Colab.

• Work with a real-world dataset from Kaggle
• Perform exploratory data analysis and model training
• Understand key evaluation metrics (accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score)
• Learn to choose the right metric based on real-world consequences

You’ll walk away with a working Colab notebook that you can adapt and explore further!

2️⃣ Workshop: Build Your Own Tech News TL;DR App

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll build a news summarization app using Gemini API with Google Search grounding.

• Deploy it as a Cloud Run API
• Use Google Cloud’s Application Integration for no-code/low-code email automation
• Automate sending news summaries directly to your inbox

📱 Mobile/AI Stream

1️⃣ Talk: Exploring Agentic Apps with Flutter
👨‍🏫 Speaker: Brett Morgan – Google Developer Relations

Agentic apps are gaining momentum! Learn how to combine Flutter and Gemini API to create innovative, AI-driven applications. This talk will cover:

• What agentic apps are
• Real-world use cases
• How to answer "What is our agentic strategy?"

2️⃣ Workshop: Introduction to Using Gemini API in Firebase
This hands-on session will guide you through using Google’s Gemini LLM in a Flutter app using Vertex AI in Firebase.

• Start with a basic chat interface
• Move to streaming responses
• Finally, add tools for the LLM to enhance interactivity
