Stepping Forward sessions are FREE education sessions for families and friends, delivering useful information and strategies to those supporting someone using alcohol and other drugs. These sessions aim to increase people's confidence and competence in managing alcohol and other drug issues by providing:


  • Clear and practical information sessions
  • A safe place to share and to feel supported

Session 1: Alcohol & Other Drugs and Treatment Options

  • Harm minimisation
  • Types of legal & illegal drugs
  • Effects & risks of drug use
  • Dependence & withdrawal
  • What families need to know about treatment
  • What happens in treatment and how people change
  • What families can do when their person is in treatment

Each Stepping Forward session is designed so that you will have something of value to take away to help you on your journey.

Family Drug Support is a caring, non-religious and non judgemental organisation. FDS is primarily made up of volunteers who have often experienced first hand the trauma and chaos of having family members with drug dependency. They have travelled the same road.
