- Keynote Address by Dr. Virginia Mapedzagama
We are honoured to welcome Dr. Virginia Mapedzagama (PhD, Sociology) as our keynote speaker. Dr. Mapedzagama is a critical race academic, Black feminist theorist, and Member Education Director at Diversity Council Australia. As a first-generation Black African migrant woman, she brings a unique perspective to the conversation on race, migration, and inclusion.
Her extensive research delves into the social construction of race, racism, and ethnicity, and explores complex topics such as migration, diaspora, Blackness, intersectionality, gendered violence, and cross-cultural identities. Dr. Mapedzagama’s work also addresses the experiences of African women and the new African diaspora in Australia, and she has published extensively in these areas.
