‘ChatGPT in the Research Lifecycle: A Hands-On Guide for Academics’
Monday 5 May 2024, 12:00pm – 1:00pm
Location: Ground floor of the Yungondi Building in Y1-70, City West Campus
Dr. Akshay Vij is an Associate Professor at UniSA Business, with a background in behavioural research. He has worked with government and industry partners on projects across Australia and internationally, and has published widely in his field. Despite all that, he’s not an AI expert—just a regular academic who started playing with ChatGPT and accidentally became much more productive (and slightly addicted). This talk is the result. Abstract
This practical, example-driven session will explore how researchers can harness ChatGPT and other generative AI tools across the entire research lifecycle. From writing support and grant applications to methodology design, data analysis, and communication of results, we’ll walk through real examples drawn from ongoing projects and everyday academic tasks. We’ll also explore how ChatGPT can support personal learning and teaching, before turning to an open discussion on the ethical use of AI in academic research. The session will be hands-on, reflective, and designed to equip research staff with concrete ideas, prompts, and best practices for integrating AI into their workflows. And yes, the title and abstract for this talk were a ChatGPT suggestion!
Bring your own lunch, light refreshments will be provided.
