Coastal Claymakers SEPTEMBER Meet Up

Studio visit and demonstration with John Tuckwell.

Join us on a visit to the Bellingen studio of local ceramic legends John Tuckwell and Gloria Malone.

The studio visit will commence at 9am with a slideshow and talk by John followed by morning tea. Once everyone is suitably refreshed, there will be a demonstration by John in his studio.

Make sure you book early as there are only 15 places available.

About John Tuckwell:

John has been a potter/ceramic artist for 32 years. He has exhibited widely around Australia and his work is held in many public and private collections. John has always been generous sharing he knowledge and techniques through demonstrations and talks locally and nationally.

Self taught in the beginning but then went on to study at Australian National University, Canberra where he found and fell in love with porcelain.

The surrounding bush around me where I lived was my initial inspiration for my work and later the mountains west of where became recuuring themes in my work. Slowly that inspiration turned to ideas coming from within - but there is a bit of nature with everything I make.

My other great influence is my materials. I have always worked with liquid porcelain with which I make coloured slabs. Most of my work is in the form of a vessel with the outer surface providing an area to work on. This ceramic vessel is made to be as lightly built and vulnerable as possible.
