Introduction to the Course
First, we’ll spend a bit of time getting to know each other and reviewing the day’s agenda. Participants will also be asked to describe their learning goals for the workshop.
Topics covered in this course
Understanding Conflict : Here we’ll ask participants to spend some time exploring where we get caught up in beliefs about ‘what conflict means’.
Different Categories of Conflict : First, we will talk about three kinds of conflict: conflict within, conflict between, and conflict within the group.
Open Conflict vs. Hidden Conflict : For example, we will look at conflict that is easily discerned and conflict that is poorly discerned, or conflict that is undiscerned.
Spontaneous and Thoughtful Actions : In this session participants will analyse both reactions. Deliberate responses through a concise lecture.
Exploring the Johari Window : Participants will engage in exercises and case studies to grasp this concept better.
Stages in Resolving Conflict : This session shows two models—one describing the seven stages of resolving conflicts, and the other showing what typically occurs when trying to have a conversation and end up involved in conflict.
Achieving Win Win Solutions : In the next part of the session, participants will have the opportunity to apply principles to practice by analysing a real case study.
Conflict Resolution Style Questionnaire : Each participant will individually complete the Conflict Resolution Style Questionnaire to identify whether they fall under avoidant or accommodating in resolving conflicts.
The Role of Communication in Conflict Resolution : Near the end of the session: We stabilised the emotional response and we managed to move forward. Remember how we spoke about the communication chain and the obstacles you identified as being part of the dispute?
Active Listening Skills : Moving forward participants will develop listening skills through an Active Listening Skills session.
Paraphrasing Skills : Participants will have opportunity to learn and practice these skills during this session.
Powerful Questions : Players will end their turn with a Questions session, during which they will be sent a short set of questions with a series of strategies guaranteed to improve your peaceful conflict resolution.
Body Language : The Body Language session [introverts] tend to focus on how their body language can be used to de-escalate hostilities
Pre-Assignment Review : Prior to entering the programme, participants completed a benchmark survey regarding their effectiveness in conflict situations.
The Conflict/Opportunity Test : They are also asked to incorporate role-play vignettes – that is, miniscenarios – The Conflict/Opportunity Test forces participants to consider difficult questions about consequences that arise from conflict.
Conflict and Its Resolution : Finally, the session called ‘Conflict and Its Resolution’ concerns processes. Tells participants how to analyse and address a conflict.
Assisting Others, in Conflict Resolution : In this session, we explore how facilitation, coaching and group norms can be applied in resolving conflicts. As well, participants will get to practise these skills by engaging in role play.
Workshop Summary : At the end of the course, participants can have a review using question and answer and creating an action plan.
