About this event

Aim:

To familiarise school teachers/educators and preservice teachers from across the SE QLD region with technologies and skills that may be used in the Digital Technologies curriculum.

A range of 3 x workshops of 90mins each will be delivered by practising Sunshine Coast teachers from Mountain Creek SHS, and academics from USC.

The same workshops will be available in Sessions 1 and 2:

Collect, explore and sort data (with BeeBots and other robotics) – DT and Mathematics (Primary) - Data is defined similarly in the Australian Curriculum for Mathematics and Digital Technologies, so why aren’t we bringing them together? In this session, we will explore opportunities to integrate these two learning areas through engaging digital technology-based statistical investigations that are age and stage-specific. Investigations will centre on big questions.

Digital systems, binary for numbers/text/colours (Years 5 - 8) - This workshop will focus on introducing binary concepts (numbers, colours, text) including practical activities for the classroom. The workshop assumes zero knowledge of the content by participants.

Micro:bit for beginners (Years 3 - 8) - The BBC micro:bit introduces students to how software and hardware work together. It has an LED light display, buttons, sensors and many input/output features that, when programmed, provides a bridge between abstract concepts in Digital Technologies and tangible experiences. During this session you will learn how teach students how to program using a micro:bit by actually doing the activities yourself.

(Small groups of 20 max. Tickets are strictly limited)

Session times are 9am -10:30am and 10:30am - 12noon. Please bring your own water and snacks as the campus is closed and there will be no food available on campus.

These professional development activities are funded via a grant provided by Google in partnership with Mountain Creek SHS. There are funds available to support teachers in rural and remote locations to attend, please contact the host for further information.

* Please note that we will be delivering a series of Dig Tech Expos in Fraser Coast in 2022 but the workshops will not be repeated, ie. this will be the only opportunity to participate in these specific workshops this year.
