Family, carers and supporters information session
If your loved one is being cared for by one of our Barwon Health's - Intensive Mental Health Drugs and Alcohol Services including:
- Swanston Centre
- McKellar Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre
- Mental Health Hospital in the Home
We would love to welcome you to this private/safe space for this Family, carers, and supporters information session.
Duration: 1 hour
Session Format: In-person
This is the perfect opportunity to gather and learn valuable information about the service your loved one is with. Whether you have just started in a caring role or have been doing this for a long time, this session is designed to provide you with the knowledge and resources you may need at this time.
We will cover a range of topics including:
- About our services (What is available for you and your loved one)
- Resources (Wide range available for you to choose from)
- Access to support services (including ongoing support referrals for you)
- Personalised supports based on your needs
We will offer you a space that is led by Family & Carer Peer Workers. (Lived experience) A chance to connect with our team, who understand many of the challenges you may be facing. A great place to find out helpful information and to have someone to talk with if needed. If you have time, you can enjoy a cuppa and afternoon tea afterward.
Please know you will not be asked to share anything you are not comfortable to talk about. Your privacy will be respected at all times.
This session is designed as a one off. Further support options will be shared on the day.
Frequently asked questions
There is on street metered parking available in the area. Please let us know if there are any challenges with parking prior to the event and we will see what we can do to help.
We will start promptly at 1.30 and hope to finish by 2.30. You are encouraged to arrive 10 minutes early to make yourself a cuppa, introduce yourself and get settled.
Currently we are running fortnightly information sessions in person only. We are planning offer online fortnightly groups in the near future. Please let us know if you have limitations with transport, we may be able to help for you to join us in person.
No not at all. The group is for your information only. It's a chance for you to ask questions and gain some clarity about the service your loved one is with.
We will ask you for your loved ones name as well as the Barwon Health Service they are with, this helps us to know how best to support you. This information will not be shared with the group.
We understand that things come up and it isn't always possible to come. Rest assured these sessions with run regularly and you can rebook anytime that suits you. Please email carersupport2@barwonhealth.org.au if you'd like to reschedule.
