The Fitzroy Writers Festival is back in 2025! Join us in the Fitzroy Town Hall Ballroom for a stellar line up of writers, thinkers and artists.
Hear from one of Australia’s leading political analysts as he unpacks how Australians are thinking, feeling and voting, now and into the future. Using demographic and social research data and drawing from his latest Quarterly Essay, George Megalogenis explores shifting electoral dynamics and the possibilities offered by minority government to re-engage and reinvigorate Australia’s democracy. This session will be moderated by The Age columnist and former political advisor, Sean Kelly.
About George Megalogenis:
George Megalogenis is one of Australia’s leading political and economic thinkers. He is an author and journalist with more than three decades’ experience in the media. His book, The Australian Moment, won the 2013 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Non-fiction and the 2012 Walkley Award for Non-fiction, and formed the basis for his ABC documentary series Making Australia Great.
George is also the author of Faultlines, The Longest Decade, Australia’s Second Chance, and Balancing Act, which contains his two Quarterly Essays, No. 40: Trivial Pursuit – Leadership and the End of the Reform Era and No. 61: Balancing Act – Australia Between Recession and Renewal. His most recent book was The Football Solution and his most recent Quarterly Essay was No 82: Exit Strategy – Politics After The Pandemic.
