About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Ever thought of becoming a foster carer but didn't know where to start? Here's your chance to learn everything you need to know at our Foster Care Information Session!

Kalgoorlie urgently needs foster carers to provide stable, loving homes for children, teenagers, or siblings who can't live safely with their families. Whether you can offer long-term care, short-term emergency support, or weekend respite care, your kindness can make a world of difference.

Who Can Be a Foster Carer?

We welcome carers from all walks of life, including:

- Any gender, sexuality, or culture

- Single or partnered individuals

- Those with or without children

- People who are working or retired

What matters most is your ability to care for and nurture a child.

Types of foster care

Foster care can be flexible. If you have room in your heart and home but can’t commit to full-time, long-term care, there are other ways you can help:

- Respite care - offering a child or young person a safe and nurturing home for just one night or weekend at a time.

- Emergency or crisis care - sometimes, children need somewhere safe to stay at very short notice for a night or even a few weeks.

- Short-term care - until plans for longer-term care are made, children need a safe, stable, caring environment for short periods (4 weeks to 6 months).

What to Expect at the Session

- Insights into different types of foster care

- Details on the application and assessment process

- Understanding the roles and responsibilities of a foster carer

- Information on the support provided by Life Without Barriers

-Information about the MOCKINGBIRD FAMILY™ foster care program

- A chance to ask any questions you might have
