Description

2 days of surprising art, science, performance & conversation

Beyond the horizon of the city, creative and resourceful people are adapting to our changing environment and climate. In early 2018 a project with a very long title (An artist, a farmer and scientist walk into a bar…) asked 9 artists and some brave collaborators to tackle regenerative farming, soil health, Aboriginal country, carbon sequestration, solar energy and wild foods. Groundswell invites you to gather with this community and some incredible speakers for talks, film, demonstrations, performance and installations. We will delve into each project, share ideas for the future and celebrate the folks who are regenerating landscapes, reshaping the food system and building strong communities in rural NSW.

The program for Groundswell can now be found here!

BUT wait, there's much much more!

Groundswell is being held in conjunction with Pulse of the Earth: a Festival of Regeneration, an event staged by the irrepressible, forward-looking people of Bingara. With music, theatre, food stalls and other festivities, it offers communities in the region a chance to enjoy themselves and feel supported during the current drought. The event will feature concerts by Things of Stone and Wood and Amber Lawrence, and a screening of the acclaimed documentary 2040 (showing the future as it could look!), with film-make Damon Gameau in conversation.

Pulse of the Earth starts the evening before Groundswell: Friday 6th of September. The joint program of Groundswell and Pulse of the Earth will be released very shortly. Please visit https://www.ksca.land/groundswell for updates!

FAQs

Do I have to register for Pulse of the Earth?

No, it's a gold coin entry event, just turn up.

Why do I need to register for Groundswell then, and why are there 3 ticket options?

Registration allows us to advise caterers of expected numbers, prepare seating and marquees and manage the flow of people through the program so everyone has a good time. Please choose the ticket that best matches your situation. The free ticket option is for people in drought affected local and regional communities. If it is within your means to purchase a ticket please do so knowing that your money will support the staging of these great events.

What are the accommodation options for that weekend?

There will be free camping at the showgrounds, which is across the road from The Living Classroom. There are great amenities and powered sites there. Also the majestic Gwydir River runs through the town and has amazing camping (also free), but you need to be self-contained. Information about Bingara, getting there, the river, and non-camping accommodation options can be found here. If you don't want to camp and the local options aren't available, you can look at neighbouring towns like Inverell, Warialda and Barraba for alternative places to stay.

What's The Living Classroom all about?

The Living Classroom is something of a world-first: a reclaimed town commons converted to a site for education on sustainable farming methods and land management methods from around the world. The Living Classroom is a key partner in the project 'An artist, a farmer and a scientist walk into a bar...', and have generously hosted several of the artists in residence.
