Buxton is a town surrounded by bushland, and was impacted by the black summer fires. Buxton Landcare is creating a special community education space at Buxton Train Station to demonstrate a range of firewise design techniques that visitors can implement in their own gardens. Plants have been chosen for this site based on their resilience to ignition and combustion. They will also help to control runoff from this site to keep our nearby waterway clean. For Wollondilly residents, every plant on this site is sourced from the Wollondilly Community Nursery. That means you can get these exact plant species for free.

A firewise garden can be beautiful and afford protection from fire spread. And this is where we need your help. We are planting 1000 seedlings that will produce beautiful flowers and foliage to make this barren site green again.

You bring a drink, some sun protection, and enthusiasm. Landcare will bring gloves and tools for you to use.

“This project is supported through a partnership between Greater Sydney Landcare, the Great Eastern Ranges and Amazon Web Services to improve the health and resilience of important parts of the Greater Sydney Water Catchment.”
