CHIA NSW is pleased to announce the next step for CHPs committed to developing their Aboriginal Cultural Competence based on the Aboriginal Outcomes Strategy, 2017 - 2021.

Building on the sessions delivered in 2020, CHIA NSW will be running training sessions that take a practical approach to using the Aboriginal Cultural Competency Standards to support better outcomes for Aboriginal tenants living in community housing.

These training sessions will unpack the final Standard in the cycle of training events based on the Aboriginal Cultural Competency Framework Standard 1 to 6, and will demonstrate how this can help CHPs deliver on their AOS commitments, in particular how this will fit into the organisation’s strategic planning (including their RAP) to make sure that the other Aboriginal Cultural Competency actions take place and are built into CHPs strategic and business plans.

The final Standard is: Standard 6: Governance

• This session is focused on setting strategies to make sure that the other Aboriginal Cultural Competency actions take place and are built into CHPs strategic and business plans
• This session will also discuss how CHPs should plan, measure success and track progress
• Explore the relationship between RAPs and AOS actions
• CHP managers, senior managers and board members would benefit from attending

These online sessions will be delivered in a half day block which includes a morning tea. This training is highly interactive, and participants will be encouraged to contribute to a framework that looks at how the organisation will measure success and how they should track the progress of AOS implementation. Participants will be further encouraged to consider how better service delivery for Aboriginal tenants and communities can be achieved through improved cultural competence. Whilst all staff in the CHP are encouraged to attend, CHIA NSW is particularly interested in what senior managers and board members might bring to the sessions, given their role in setting and implementing strategic goals.

CHIA NSW is offering three half day sessions on 16 April; 17 May and 16 June 2021 with additional sessions to be offered later in 2021 if needed. The sessions are capped so that the learning environment can take advantage of opportunities to maximise interaction.
