Inclusive Curriculum Provision

Equitable access to grade-level academic curriculum is a cornerstone of inclusive education. When students with disability, including those with complex learning profiles, are included in regular curriculum opportunities alongside same-aged peers it leads to increased academic, social and post-school outcomes. However, the implementation of inclusive curriculum provision often poses practical challenges for teachers. Teachers report uncertaintity regarding how to plan for and provide curriculum in a way that responds to the diverse requirements of students whilst maintaining academic rigour. This two-part presentation delves into the rationale, methodology, and key elements of inclusive curriculum provision, and offers practical, actionable strategies that ensure its realisation across all learning areas and grade levels.

Part 1 (October 9th at 7.00-8.30pm):

  • Understanding inclusive education and its benefits
  • Exploring the educational experiences of students with disability
  • Understanding what it means to provide meaningful opportunities to learn
  • Exploring the elements of inclusive curriculum provision
  • Understanding the Australian Curriculum (and its state-based iterations) and how it applies to inclusive curriculum provision

Part 2 (October 23rd at 7.00-8.30pm):

  • Introducing the Inclusive Academic Curriculum Framework (IACF)
  • Working with the IACF to plan accessible grade-level academic curriculum for all students
  • Working with the IACF to apply curriculum adjustments to grade-level academic curriculum
