Join us for an insightful presentation with Madonna Hayes as she provides an overview of the federal criminal law regime, its operation within State and Territory courts and the specialised and rewarding work of the Commonwealth DPP. Discover key legal practice areas, principles of criminal responsibility under Commonwealth law and how evidence laws are applied in federal criminal matters. Madonna will highlight the wide variety of specialised practise areas CDPP, including cybercrime, border security, international drug importations, human exploitation, serious financial and corporate crime, terrorism and national security. About the Presenter

Madonna Hayes is a Townsville-born-and-raised barrister and JCU law graduate. She was admitted as a barrister in 1999 and has more than 25 years' experience practicing in criminal law. Madonna is employed with ATSILS in Townsville, principally practicing in children’s criminal matters. From 2019 to 2023 Madonna was a member of the private bar at Sir George Kneipp Chambers in Townsville, practicing in criminal and family law and in the Mental Health Review Tribunal. Madonna spent more than 18 years working as a federal prosecutor and manager with the Commonwealth DPP in locations around Australia and its off-shore territories, including Townsville, Cairns, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Darwin, Christmas Island and the Cocos Keeling Islands. Madonna has also worked as a sessional subject and practice mentor and tutor with the Australian National University’s Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice Professional Practice Core.
