About this event

The Centre for Disability Research and Policy at the University of Sydney, in partnership with the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health, the Charles Perkins Centre, and the University of Sydney Disability Inclusion Action Plan, invites you to the world's first international Indigenous disability research symposium.

This one-and-a-half-day event will bring to light what the international platform of Indigenous disability research looks like under the United Nations (UN) Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (DRIP) and Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). The objective from this event is to develop a global collaborative research community in indigenous disability research under the UN’s DRIP and CRDP.

We will address three questions:

1. What does the international disability research archive look like on a global scale?

2. How can scholars respect and empower Indigenous people with disability in research and research translation that is culturally respectful for Indigenous people?

3. What does decolonisation/Indigenisation mean in disability research.

Indigenous scholars have been invited to present their research and advise on what the Strategy should look like. These presentations will show us what the research archive looks like in each presenter’s nation and discipline area.

Presentations will be followed by discussions on research, ethics, and Indigenous traditional research knowledge translation within a decolonisation/Indigenisation lens.

Everyone is welcome to attend and engage in the event. THERE WILL BE A NETWORKING LUNCH AFTER THE EVENT ON THURSDAY 23rd.

The event speaker program will be emailed to RSVP registers closer to the date.

Seats are limited, register now to secure your spot!
