Buying your first serious camera be it a DSLR or a mirrorless system camera is very exciting, but all those controls can be a bit intimidating!

Why You Will Love This Course: This course is developed to outline how to set up your camera ready to take your first few shots. This informative course is ideal for first-time Camera users who would like to gain an understanding of some of the terminology and techniques used in digital photography.

You'll learn how to overcome many of the challenges when first starting in your photography and how to quickly and confidently control your Mirrorless or DSLR camera. The course will demonstrate the the principles of better composition. A look at the 3 key elements of exposure, when and how to use priority modes, aperture control and depth of field so you can gain a better understanding of manual shooting. Before you know it you will be taking more creative shots as you gain more of an understanding of the photography basics and techniques.

Use your digital camera to its full potential and master the following techniques.

A guide to the principles of better composition

  • A look at the 3 key elements of exposure
  • When and how to use priority modes
  • How and why to control your shutter speed
  • Aperture control and depth of field
  • Examples of the benefits and pitfalls to controlling your ISOChoosing both your focusing mode and focus area
  • A look at filters and how they can further enhance your images

Duration: 2.5 Hours

What To Bring? Your Camera fully charged and camera manual, notepad and pen. You may find it beneficial to keep existing photos on your memory card for critique by our trainer.

About your Trainer

Sam Oster runs Cog Creative Space and has over 20 years’ experience as a working freelance photographer. She runs Silvertrace, servicing arts & entertainment clients (film & TV, dance, theatre & music clients) as well as commercial clients (product, event, schools & corporate photography). She also runs Headshot Laboratory, specialising in actors headshots and corporate headshots, both in the studio and on location. Sam has a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours, Photography Major), as well as a Diploma in Photoimaging and a Certificate IV in WorkplaceTraining & Assessment. She has been teaching for over 20 years’, has taught extensively at the Centre For Creative Photography, The University of South Australia, TAFE SA and Carclew Youth Arts Centre.
