In this two day Lino printing workshop learn how to add colour to your lino prints using the jigsaw technique, a simple and effective way to achieve multi colour lino prints. The lino block and design is cut into a number of pieces, with each piece inked up separately in different colours and then reassembled and printed with one pass through the press.

Participants will learn how to prepare and transfer their designs to the lino; how to cut and carve a lino block; how to ink up the block; print the lino block using the workshops printing presses; and produce a small edition of prints.
Day 1: Preparing the lino block
Day 2: Printing the block in 2 to 3 colours
This workshop is suitable for beginners and those wanting to refresh or extend skills.

Course notes, all tools and materials supplied by the tutor including quality inks and printmaking paper. Linoleum tile size will be 20x15cm.

This workshop requires a minimum of 4 particpants to proceed.


What do participants need to bring: What do participants need to bring: Bring an image or several images suitable for linocut. Linocut prints are generally bold and graphic so keep this in mind when designing/choosing your image. You can also work on image ideas during the first session. Your image size needs to be 20x15cm. If you prefer to use your own Lino tools please bring them along. Wear old clothes or an apron and closed-in shoes for safety. Bring your own refreshments, snacks and lunch.

Covid Safety: Due to NPW’s Covid Policy participants must sign in, wash or sanitise their hands immediately upon entering the workshop and maintain physical distancing whenever possible during class. If you have COVID-19 symptoms, have visited a COVID case location, or have been directed to isolate, you must not attend class.

ABOUT THE TUTOR
Valé is passionate about printmaking with a focus on lino printing, collagraphy, solar plate etching, and fabric screen printing. Valé holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts majoring in printmaking. She exhibits regularly and has been printmaking for over 20 years. Vale is a member at the Newcastle Printmakers Workshop and the Make Space collective in Newcastle. Valé often draws inspiration from her prints to incorporate them into her handmade bag designs for her local business Inknot.

The NPW Newcastle Printmakers Workshop is Australias longest running open access workshops, established in 1979, and provides local practicing artists, students and beginners with access to equipment and work space. There are approximately 80 members and we run a variety of workshops and exhibitions each year.

Ticket Policy: Most classes require a minimum number of participants to go ahead. This depends on a number of factors and the minimum is stated on the individual workshop booking page. In the event of the workshop being cancelled, your booking will be refunded in full. In the case of you not being able to attend a workshop you will be refunded as follows:

  • Cancellations less than 24 hours before and no-shows on the day will not be refunded and a credit or transfer will not be issued.
  • Cancellations within 1 week will receive a 35% refund.
  • Cancellations between 1 and 2 weeks of the workshop will receive a 50% refund.
  • Cancellations more than two weeks before the workshop receive a full refund less any third party booking fee.

If Newcastle Printmakers, or the student, has to cancel due to Covid lock downs enforced after booking, a refund will be issued. This may be for a whole course, if there is more than one class in the course, dependant upon whether the course has started. For example if we go into lock down part way through a 5 week workshop a pro rata refund will be issued. Alternatively the student may chose to retain a credit for a future course with Newcastle Printmakers.
