About this event

  • Event lasts 1 day 8 hours

Recognised as the global leader in suicide intervention training, LivingWorks ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is a 2-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid.

LivingWorks' ASIST is designed to enhance learners’ abilities to help individuals by becoming willing, ready and able to intervene with someone who has thoughts of suicide. Participants learn to help someone with thoughts of suicide develop a safety plan to keep safe-for-now and connect with further help while applying a Safety Framework to guide the development of this SafePlan through a collaborative, helping relationship. Learners will learn to understand how personal and community attitudes about suicide affect someone’s openness to seek help and your ability to provide it.

ASIST is highly standardised but adaptable to various settings and diverse trainee backgrounds. It has been implemented in secondary and post-secondary schools, mental health centres, hospitals, social services, public safety agencies, and other community settings.

Extensive research and evaluation show that ASIST participants demonstrate improved intervention skills and positive changes in knowledge and attitudes about suicide.

Key Features:

· Facilitated Involvement: Participants spend over half of the workshop in small groups with one of the two trainers.

· Stimulated Learning: Audiovisuals and teaching support a suicide first aid model, providing a framework for the workshop and skills practice.

· Practical Opportunities: The workshop offers insights into what individuals at risk may need to stay safe and seek further help, considering common factors that indicate potential suicide risk.

· Training Focus: Personal and professional experiences shared by participants enhance collective learning, focusing on providing suicide intervention first aid.

· Attitude Reflection: Participants are encouraged to reflect on and share their attitudes about suicide and intervention, appreciating diverse perspectives.

· Open Dialogue: Honest, open, and direct discussions about suicide prepare participants to provide effective suicide intervention first aid.

The two-day ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) workshop is open to anyone 18 or older. Widely used by both professionals and the public, ASIST offers something to every participant, no matter how experienced.

Suicide is preventable. Anyone can make a difference.

A certificate of attendance will be issued however, participants must complete the entire 2 days' training in full. It is important that no content be missed. It is strongly recommended to clear other commitments for the training days in advance.
