Did you know that there are populations of freshwater turtles in many of our Urban Lakes systems! You can help protect them by logging sightings on TurtleSAT > Home on your mobile phone when you are simply our walking around your local lake!
Love our Lakes event second workshop presenter is Doctor Catherine Baudains, and Environmental Educator affiliated with Murdoch University and Citizen Science project 1 Million Turtles and she wil l empower you to start logging valuable data onto TurtleSAT > Home and you can also register your expression of interest for even more Citizen Science Training | 1 Million Turtles in future.
After the intro to Community Trutle Monitoring, we will take a stroll around the Lake at Bruce Cresswell Reserve and try our luck (Long-neck turtles were relocated to Bruce Cresswell Lakes, due to the Perry Lakes Development) so this wil lbe a fun activity for the whole family, and if the kids are not into turtles, there will be some Backyard Bandicoot activities available as well as additional local info stalls (including our very own Fight the Bite Mosquito Control Program) and kids activities (inc luding but not limited to Coastal Waste Warriors and Grow it Local Seedling pots). So this event will be fun and informative for the whole family to interact with before, after and during the workshops!
Plus all attendees can take home a free seedling for their own back yard ponds, grown by our very own City of Mandurah Nursery!
You may attend one or both workshops or just come and have a look at the info stalls (drop in) ...so check out associated https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/love-our-lakes-fertilise-wise-healthy-wetlands-workshop-tickets-1277402989729?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl which is the 1st workshop of the day and book your place for that too. Frequently asked questions
We will open up access to the grassed area of the reserve from 9:30am, but these parking spots need to be prioritized for people with mobility issues that need closer parking, so if possible, please use bays on Oakmont Avenue and walk along path to the marquees.
Light morning Tea will be provided but consists of fruit juices/water and biscuits. You are welcome to byo food and drink as well as there are no food trucks at the event.
There is no toilet at Bruce Cresswell Reserve - the nearest available public toilet is approximately 1km away at the Meadow Springs Shopping Centre (at the end of Oakmont Ave)
Whilst it is an outdoor event and we will encourage walks around the lake, there will be a large undercover marquee area to shelter under if it rains.
