About this event

Join us at the limited series of Maker Lab sessions!

We are getting very close to opening our full suite of programs and just ironing out a few last details. In the meantime, we are running a limited series of sessions from the full program. These sessions are a trial and as with any new product, there may be things we improve on the way. The purpose of running this limited series is to find and action these improvements before we rollout the full program.

What is Maker Lab?

Maker Lab will be an open session where you can book equipment or just come work and connect in the space! Most equipment will be available. We are still setting up our membership and booking platform. So for this limited series, if you would like to book something in particular please include that in the notes of your ticket and the times you will need it.

Equipment Resources Include:

  • Computers, Monitors 🟢
  • Podcast & Streaming Kits 🟢
  • Electronic Kits 🟢
  • Midi Keyboard 🟢
  • Cricut🟢
  • RasberryPi 🟢
  • Electronic workbench 🟡
  • 3D Printers 🟡
  • Sewing Machines & Overlockers 🟡
  • CNC Machine 🔴
  • Laser Cutter 🔴
  • Workshop Bench 🔴

Equipment Usage and Safety

We classify our tools into three levels based on the potential risk to people and property:

  • 🟢 Low Risk: Self-assess your competency and use if comfortable. Ask for help if needed. Stay vigilant about safety.
  • 🟡 Medium Risk: Requires a short induction or demonstration of safe use.
  • 🔴 High Risk: Requires an induction before use. Only authorized personnel can train on these tools. The Cutting room with high-risk tools will be locked when no authorized person is present.

During our limited series of Maker Lab, we will be allowing people with proven experience to use the red rated machines only as we are currently building out our inductions for these. If you would like to try use the machines for a project and a staff memeber with training is available, you are able to provide the files to the staff member to do the cutting/engraving for you.

Consumables

Please bring your own consumables. A list of compatible consumables for each piece of equipment can be found in the FAQ document.

We will have a limited amount of consumables on hand. Please talk to the staff member about the project you are doing and which consumables you might need. We ask that if you are using materials from the Make-It space that the project is kept here as an example of the types of projects that can be made here.

Membership

As we are currently setting up our membership platform, you will be required to fill out forms and have a brief induction to the space upon arrival. Please allow 15 minutes at the start of your visit for this. To become a member, you will need to:

  • Be 14 years or older. If you are under 16, you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can sign the consent form on your first visit.
