About this event

Join Dunghutti artist and elder Uncle John Kelly and artists from the museum’s Indigenous programs team as you learn to create your own model watercraft, a small-scale Nawi out of bark and twine.

John Kelly is a respected Nawi maker, artist, elder and educator. He often explores the translation of traditional practices into contemporary mediums and forms. His work engages community in the preservation and celebration of culture. In this workshop he will share his specialist knowledge of traditional watercraft making and the tools and techniques involved in working with natural materials.

General admission to this workshop includes refreshments and a complimentary See it all museum admission for paid workshop participants and accompanying adults, so you can also enjoy the rest of the museum before or after your workshop session.

Please arrive to the registration desk in museum foyer 5-10 mins prior to the program. Parents/ carers will be required to accompany participants under 12 yrs on the day.

Compimentary museum access and beverages of your choice from Ripples cafe provided. Sturdy shoes and sun protection are recomemnded for time spent outdoors. All materials for the workshop are supplied.
