About this event

  • Event lasts 2 days 5 hours

OCPH Masterclasses are accredited CPD activities with ACRRM and ACEM.

This intensive program will focus on refining core skills and conducting complex conversations with patients, families and colleagues.

Hosted by Australia's academic centre for healthcare communication, Deakin University's Centre for Organisational Change in Person-Centred Healthcare (OCPH), this residential masterclass will be held at Waurn Ponds Estate, tucked away on Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds Campus.

Take time out

Step away from busy clinical practice against the backdrop of a beautiful, distraction free rural environment, only 1 hour from Melbourne's CBD. Enjoy a fully catered package, including evenings at the Estate, with local and regional produce to nourish and sustain you.

Relax in the convenience and comfort of the Waurn Ponds Estate corporate accomodation and facilities, boasting an outdoor solar heated pool and spa, gymnasium, tennis courts and peaceful walking tracks.

During the masterclass delegates will:

  • Gain awareness of the evidence-based frameworks and models to support effective clinical consultations
  • Develop skills to observe and deconstruct consultations by analysing patient-clinician interactions
  • Table your own unique communication challenges to draw upon the expertise of interprofessional perspectives
  • Refine strategies for conversations about health behaviour change, risk and shared decision-making, prognosis and end-of-life
  • Apply new skills by engaging in experiential learning with highly specialised, OCPH-trained simulated patients
  • Integrate learning across the contexts of patient care, interprofessional communication, supervision and leadership

Who should attend?

All health professionals and educators seeking to further develop and refine key communication skills.
