THEME: Shift the Conversation

9.00am: Registration for a 9.15am start

9.15am: Opening address by Hon Tony Buti, Minister for Education

9.50am: Keynote Speaker (including a break for morning tea):

Our keynote speaker is Prof Jane Wilkinson from Monash University, supported by the research team of Dr Philippa Chandler and Tim Delany. Their research project “Invisible Labour: Principals’ Emotional Labour in Volatile Times” will generate new knowledge and policy frameworks for the development of leaders’ emotional skills and building bridges to diverse communities. This work is directly linked to delivering reduced principal turnover, improved teacher retention, improved student outcomes and greater social cohesion.

12.15pm: Lunch

1.30pm: Bullshift – Get more openness, honesty and straight talk at work.

Professional speaker, facilitator and comedian Andrew Horabin will present an engaging and entertaining session on the first two concepts of Bullshift.

The Ladder of Relationships

  • Collaborative – purpose-driven, clear, open, honest.
  • Co-operative – friendly, polite, helpful, protective.
  • Competitive – siloed, self-promoting, self-defending, guarded.
  • Adversarial – toxic, vengeful, irrational, destructive.

We explore the attitudes and behaviours at each level, what makes people go up and down, and things leaders can do to help lift some relationships up.

The Point Curve

We use this simple and effective communication tool to explore distinctions between Point Easy, Point Hard and Crisis Point and how to get collectively better at determining when to act on issues. We’ll also look at things you can get staff to do to keep issues down the Curve.

We’ll laugh, share and learn a few things to improve communication in our teams. For more information on Bullshift, go to Bullshift.com and TeamShifty.com
