About this event

  • Event lasts 7 hours 30 minutes

The Coffs Harbour Conservatorium of Music is hosting a visit by acclaimed pianist Tonya Lemoh on Monday May 5. The visit will take the form of two piano workshops, one for teachers and one for students.

Tonya Lemoh is an Australian/Sierra-Leonean pianist, made a career of championing forgotten composers. Labelled a ‘pianist archaeologist’ by a leading critic, her concert appearances and recordings have consistently garnered critical acclaim. Her breakthrough on the international stage came with the release of her solo recording of piano works by Austrian composer Joseph Marx for Chandos records. She was recently appointed Head of Keyboard at WAAPA.

Tonya may cover a little of the pedagogy and practice of performing works by Australian Composers but will focus on Collaboration and Accompaniment as a pianist. This will be a very useful workshop in an area that is ubiquitous in the career activities of most pianists. Obviously places to participate actively will be limited and may change on the day but if you and/or your students are attending could you please also indicate whether you and/or they wish to play as this would help in programming.
