The School of Creative Practice and the XR Screen Futures Hub invite you to the showcase of two major new research films created by teams of QUT researchers.
The first short film follows the inspirational story of QUT Film graduate Angus McLeod who was critically injured on a night out in 2022 when he went to the aid of a young woman being assaulted in the city. His recovery and his journey back to a life where he is now achieving his life dreams through the use of bionics is both heartwarming and inspirational to families of trauma victims. The film uses innovative story-telling approaches and AI-supported animation techniques to deliver a visually and emotionally powerful result.
The second research film is the third in a trilogy of films about Trauma Care for the Jamieson Trauma Institute which began in 2020, and this episode features a fictional Mass Casualty Incident where space debris fall onto various locations across QLD.
The film illustrates how the emergency services would respond to such a dramatic and widespread incident, and was entirely shot in our state-of-the-art Virtual Production Studio at QUT using real emergency crews, nurses and doctors set in stunning Virtual Environments using In-Camera-Visual-Effects techniques refined by the QUT research team over the past 6 years.
It is spectacular, dramatic, informative and entertaining, and represents significant achievements in Virtual Production technique advancements by the research team.
The event will include a special Behind the Scenes look at how the QUT team have pioneered several major research breakthroughs on both films, and will include a Q&A with the film makers. There will then be an opportunity to explore the Virtual Production Studio facility and chat with our technical and creative teams.
