About this event

Explore the exciting martial art of Ryukyu Kobudo with the dynamic Kinjo brothers. Get the Okinawan training experience without long distance travel! Ryukyu Kobudo is the art of ancient Okinawan weapons. Bo, Sai, Tonfa, Nunchaku and more.

Elder brother Satoshi Kinjo sensei is the Kaichō of the Ryukyu Kobudo Hozonkai based in Shuri, Okinawa. He is an 8th dan in Kobudo and a 7th dan in Uechi Ryu Karate. Satoshi sensei has not been to Australia since 2019.

Younger brother Kenta Kinjo sensei is a 6th dan in Kobudo and in Uechi Ryu Karate. He has won numerous championships in Kobudo. This is his first visit down under.

The two seminars will specifically address Bo and Nunchaku. Opportunities may be available for more experienced Kobudo-ka to cover additional weapons (subject to having a Victorian permit and interest).

Seminar 1 is Saturday the 10th of May and starts at 3pm

Southern Cross Martial Arts is a boutique martial arts school with strong ties to Okinawa, the birthplace of Karate. We often host top international martial arts instructors here in Ballarat to strengthen those ties and develop our own skills, and to meet new people and expand our circle of friends. In Okinawa the locals have a saying "ichiraba chode", meaning "once we have met we are like family".
