The Global Compact Network Australia (GCNA), WWF-Australia and thinkstep-anz invite you to a hands-on workshop to explore practical approaches to setting a scope 3 emissions target as part of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
More than 860 companies, representing 45 sectors from 46 countries around the world have set Science-based Targets to help keep global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels. Together, the operational emissions of these companies total more than 1 billion tonnes of carbon — more than the annual emissions of Germany.
However, for most companies setting, implementing and evaluating scope 3 emissions targets remains a challenge. This online workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to share their experiences and learn directly from technical and industry experts.
Through hands-on activities, companies will identify their barriers to getting started as well as the best tactics to overcome these barriers. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to scope their full carbon footprint — including in relevant Scope 3 categories.
Key topics that will be covered in the online workshop include:
- Business drivers and investor requirements around carbon targets
- Practical approaches to setting a Scope 3 target
- Scope 3 challenges and opportunities
- Industry case studies
- Approaches that are available for setting a science-based target
Speakers:
- Monica Richter, Senior Manager Low Carbon Futures, WWF Australia
- Corinne Schoch, Senior Adviser, Global Compact Network Australia
- Barbara Nebel, CEO, thinkstep-anz
- Ian Lieblich, Sustainability Manager, Investa
- Jane Mansfield, General Manager Quality, Environment and Sustainability, Asaleo Care
- Susanne Etti, Environment Impact Specialist, Intrepid Travel

Community of Practice:
In 2019, the Global Compact Network Australia and WWF-Australia entered a partnership to support the uptake of Science Based Target (SBT) setting by Australian companies. In 2020, we will continue to support this initiative by working with a range of partners and providing a number of webinars and workshops to help increase awareness and build capacity across businesses to set and commit to a SBT.
