SciencePlay Kids Holiday classes 4-11yo (September 2024)

SciencePlay kids classes are designed to encourage 4-10 year olds to explore science in an accessible, tactile and hands-on way. Each class runs for around an hour, has 3 experiments/explorations that foster creative thinking, problem solving, questioning, observing, hypothesising and all things STEAM in a fun and MESSY way.

We are running sessions in both Week 1 and Week 2 and cover a different topic each week so you can book into both. HOWEVER, ONLY book ONE session per week. All of week 1 sessions = Topic 1 and all of week 2 sessions = Topic 2.

Week 1: Sink or Float?
In this water filled workshop we will be exploring floating, sinking, density, buoyancy and the Archimedes principle. It will be splashy, very colourful and pretty messy (don't worry, it's our job to clean it all up).

Week 2: Dinosaurs and Fossils and Bones

What do fossils tell us about the past? How do we know what we know about dinosaurs? In this sessions we will be making cast fossils, mold fossils and trace fossils, digging for dino bones and piecing together what we can from the past. Again, this session will be messy, so don't wear your favourite clothes.

PLEASE REMEMBER it is still a little chilly and we are in a warehouse, so please wear warm clothes that are ok to get a little wet/messy.

Sessions are held in the "Lab" in Millers Junction.

An ADULT must accompany children for the duration of the session (60min). If 2-3 children are coming in a group, 1 adult is sufficient (1 per child is not needed.... we just need to make sure that each group or family has an adult that can help with any tricky bits or things that might be challenging in the fine motor skill department - eg opening lids etc)

Booking for SciencePlay Kids classes online (CREDIT CARD ONLY).Classes are $33 per child (plus booking fee). Online bookings are made via credit card ONLY (Visa/Mastercard and AMEX accepted)

Accessibility info:

32 Lobelia Drive is a step free and wheel chair accessible venue, the main entrance is at street level.

Accessible bathroom is at street level, adjacent to the main space.

There is space to park prams.

Tables in workshops are approximately 55 cm high and can be swapped/adapted if need be.

We tend to put no more than 4 children on a table. If your child has sensory needs, we are more than happy to set them up in the lounge area if this helps so they can have more space and less people around them.

If attending a session with a guide dog or assistance animals please contact us in advance at info@scienceplaykids.com.au. Whilst we love our furry friends depending on the session there may be hazards for them, and we are happy to chat about the best way to keep them safe.

School holiday content of sessions vary by topic (eg. Sessions that focus on electricity may contain flashing lights and sounds), please check the details of the sessions for specifics on auditory/sensory warnings.
