About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Join Cassie Hamer (The Stranger at the Table) and Darcy Tindale (Burning Mountain) in conversation with fellow author, Tania Chandler about deadly family secrets and fatal friendships.

Cassie Hamer’s debut novel, The Stranger at the Table (HarperCollins Publishing) starts with a family gathering – but not everyone who sits down to dinner will survive it. Poisonous lies, family secrets, addiction and revenge – always a dish best served cold - are all on the menu. A past is ready to explode across the dinner table in the deadliest of ways . . .

Sydney author Cassie Hamer has a professional background in journalism and PR, but now much prefers the world of fiction over fact. She is the author of three novels, including the Australian bestseller, After the Party.

In Burning Mountain (Penguin Random House), Darcy Tindale’s second crime novel, Detective Rebecca Giles returns to reopen a missing persons case that has troubled her rural town for twenty years, when the bones of a teenage boy are discovered on Mount Wingen. Five went up. Only four came down . . . Rebecca suspects his friends, all now in their mid-thirties, know more than they admitted, particularly about an argument that led the boy to leave the group.

Darcy Tindale is an actor, author, theatresports player and director, and has appeared in television commercials, film and on stage. She has written comedy for radio, stage, media personalities, comedians, and theatre restaurants. Her short stories, plays and poems have been published in anthologies, journals and magazines. Her first novel, The Fall Between, came out in 2023 and was shortlisted for the Davitt Awards and the Ned Kelly Awards.

Tania Chandler is the author of three novels — Please Don’t Leave Me Here, Dead in the Water and All That I Remember About Dean Cola — which have been published in Australia and internationally, selected for library reading programs and shortlisted for awards. When not writing, Tania teaches creative writing, mentors writers and hosts online workshops. She is also an actor, amateur photographer, ice skater and co-creator of Writers on Ice — interviewing some of Australia’s best writers while ice skating!
