About this event

The Australian Government’s $525 million Skills Package, Delivering Skills for Today and Tomorrow committed funds to establish a National Skills Commission, Skills Organisations and a National Careers Institute.

Together these initiatives will help modernise and strengthen our skills system by driving research and analysis of national skills needs, raising the profile of VET as a career pathway of choice and giving industry greater ownership of the skills and training system.

Workshops will be held on the role and purpose of:

  • the National Skills Commission, which will oversee the Australian Government’s investment in VET qualifications and promote a nationwide approach to skills forecasting.
  • the Skills Organisations, which will give industry more ownership across the national skills pipeline and help improve the national training system for both industry and students.
  • the National Careers Institute, established in July 2019, to provide leadership in the delivery of high quality, evidence-based career development to help Australians make informed decisions about their learning, training and work pathways. This workshop will examine how the Institute can most effectively achieve its purpose.
